DIA 2013 49th Annual Meeting Session 135 - Cooperation Among Regulators: Impact on Stakeholders
This afternoon, executive leadership from Health Canada, the European Medicines Agency (EU) and the US FDA return to DIA’s Annual Meeting as Paul Glover, MBA (Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Products & Food Branch, Health Canada), Emer Cooke (Head of International and European Cooperation, European Medicines Agency) and FDA Commissioner Margaret A. Hamburg, MD, convene their second panel discussion on global regulatory collaboration.
SCOTUS DNA Session
The US Supreme Court has issued its long-awaited decision in Association of Molecular Pathology v. Myriad Genetics, Inc. on the patent eligibility of DNA molecules. On its face, the ruling may appear clear cut – but is it? And what will be the effects of the ruling going forward?
Just added to our DIA 2013 49th Annual Meeting program, the panel discussion SCOTUS DNA Patent Ruling: Implications for the Industry (3:30PM on Wednesday June 26 in Room 101)
will explore the complexity of the issue of DNA patents, the uncertainties raised by this ruling, and look beyond the specifics toward its future implications for the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors.

This morning’s Opening Plenary featured elected DIA volunteer leadership, meeting program leadership, entertainment by Shapelogy, North America volunteer award winners from our global member network, and a keynote address from an innovative visionary whose career embodies our meeting theme, Dr. Daniel Kraft.
Welcome Patient Advocate Fellows
DIA’s Patient Advocate Fellowship Program supports the Annual Meeting participation of patient advocacy and patient group representatives, which provides opportunities for them to strengthen and support their collaborations with policy makers, health care professionals, industry representatives and other important groups. Twenty Advocates were selected to participate in this year’s program.
